usb: patches for v3.10 merge window
Here is the big Gadget & PHY pull request. Many of us have
been really busy lately getting multiple drivers to a better
position.
Since this pull request is so large, I will divide it in sections
so it's easier to grasp what's included.
- cleanups:
. UDC drivers no longer touch gadget->dev, that's now udc-core
responsibility
. Many more UDC drivers converted to usb_gadget_map/unmap_request()
. UDC drivers no longer initialize DMA-related fields from gadget's
device structure
. UDC drivers don't touch gadget.dev.driver directly
. UDC drivers don't assign gadget.dev.release directly
. Removal of some unused DMA_ADDR_INVALID
. Introduction of CONFIG_USB_PHY
. All phy drivers have been moved to drivers/usb/phy and renamed to
a common naming scheme
. Fix PHY layer so it never returns a NULL pointer, also fix all
callers to avoid using IS_ERR_OR_NULL()
. Sparse fixes all over the place
. drivers/usb/otg/ has been deleted
. Marvel drivers (mv_udc, ehci-mv, mv_otg and mv_u3d) improved clock
usage
- new features:
. UDC core now provides a generic way for tracking and reporting
UDC's state (not attached, resuming, suspended, addressed,
default, etc)
. twl4030-usb learned that it shouldn't be enabled during init
. Full DT support for DWC3 has been implemented
. ab8500-usb learned about pinctrl framework
. nop PHY learned about DeviceTree and regulators
. DWC3 learned about suspend/resume
. DWC3 can now be compiled in host-only and gadget-only (as well as
DRD) configurations
. UVC now enables streaming endpoint based on negotiated speed
. isp1301 now implements the PHY API properly
. configfs-based interface for gadget drivers which will lead to
the removal of all code which just combines functions together
to build functional gadget drivers.
. f_serial and f_obex were converted to new configfs interface while
maintaining old interface around.
- non-critical fixes:
. UVC gadget driver got fixes for Endpoint usage and stream calculation
. ab8500-usb fixed unbalanced clock and regulator API usage
. twl4030-usb got a fix for when OMAP3 is booted with cable connected
. fusb300_udc got a fix for DMA usage
. UVC got fixes for two assertions of the USB Video Class Compliance
specification revision 1.1
. build warning issues caused by recent addition of __must_check to
regulator API
These are all changes which deserve a mention, all other changes are related
to these one or minor spelling fixes and other similar tasks.

usb: chipidea: udc: fix memory access of shared memory on armv5 machines
The udc uses an shared dma memory space between hard and software. This
memory layout is described in ci13xxx_qh and ci13xxx_td which are marked
with the attribute ((packed)).
The compiler currently does not know about the alignment of the memory
layout, and will create strb and ldrb operations.
The Datasheet of the synopsys core describes, that some operations on
the mapped memory need to be atomic double word operations. I.e. the
next pointer addressing in the qhead, as otherwise the hardware will
read wrong data and totally stuck.
This is also possible while working with the current active td queue,
and preparing the td->ptr.next in software while the hardware is still
working with the current active td which is supposed to be changed:
writeb(0xde, &td->ptr.next + 0x0); /* strb */
writeb(0xad, &td->ptr.next + 0x1); /* strb */
<----- hardware reads value of td->ptr.next and get stuck!
writeb(0xbe, &td->ptr.next + 0x2); /* strb */
writeb(0xef, &td->ptr.next + 0x3); /* strb */
This appeares on armv5 machines where the hardware does not support
unaligned 32bit operations.
This patch adds the attribute ((aligned(4))) to the structures to tell
the compiler to use 32bit operations. It also adds an wmb() for the
prepared TD data before it gets enqueued into the qhead.

usb: gadget: use consistent naming scheme for usb function modules
In order to convert to configfs the USB functions need to be converted
to the new interface from Sebastian, which also requires turning them
into separate modules. Some of these modules will consist of just
one object file, e.g. f_ncm.o. But some of the modules will eventually
consist of more than one object file, e.g. for mass storage there
will be f_mass_storage.o and storage_common.o. The resulting module
cannot be called f_mass_storage.ko due to cyclic dependency. This patch
introduces a naming scheme for the said resulting modules:
usb_f_xxxxxx.ko

require some function re-work to make it work.
scheduled for v5:
- sym linking function into config.
v2…v3
- replaced one ifndef by ifdef as suggested by Micahał
- strstr()/strchr() function_make as suggested by Micahł
- replace [iSerialNumber|iProduct|iManufacturer] with
[sSerialNumber|sProduct|sManufacturer] as suggested by Alan
- added creation of config descriptors
v1…v2
- moved gadgets from configfs' root directory into /udcs/ within our
"usb_gadget" folder. Requested by Andrzej & Michał
- use a dot as a delimiter between function's name and its instance's name
as suggested by Michał
- renamed all config_item_type, configfs_group_operations, make_group,
drop_item as suggested by suggested by Andrzej to remain consisten
within this file and within other configfs users
- Since configfs.c and functions.c are now part of the udc-core module,
the module itself is now called udc. Also added a tiny ifdef around
init code becuase udc-core is subsys init and this is too early for
configfs in the built-in case. In the module case, we can only have
one init function.

usb: gadget/uvc: Port UVC webcam gadget to use videobuf2 framework
This patch reworks the videobuffer management logic present in the UVC
webcam gadget and ports it to use the "more apt" videobuf2 framework for
video buffer management.
To support routing video data captured from a real V4L2 video capture
device with a "zero copy" operation on videobuffers (as they pass from
the V4L2 domain to UVC domain via a user-space application), we need to
support USER_PTR IO method at the UVC gadget side.
So the V4L2 capture device driver can still continue to use MMAP IO
method and now the user-space application can just pass a pointer to the
video buffers being dequeued from the V4L2 device side while queueing
them at the UVC gadget end. This ensures that we have a "zero-copy"
design as the videobuffers pass from the V4L2 capture device to the UVC
gadget.
Note that there will still be a need to apply UVC specific payload
headers on top of each UVC payload data, which will still require a copy
operation to be performed in the 'encode' routines of the UVC gadget.
This patch also addresses one issue found out while porting the UVC
gadget to videobuf2 framework:
- In case the usb requests queued by the gadget get completed
with a status of -ESHUTDOWN (disconnected from host),
the queue of videobuf2 should be cancelled to ensure that the
application space daemon is not left in a state waiting for
a vb2 to be successfully absorbed at the USB side.

PNP: List Rafael Wysocki as a maintainer
The Adam Belay's e-mail address in MAINTAINERS under PNP SUPPORT
is not valid any more and I started to maintain that code in the
meantime as a matter of fact, so list myself as a maintainer of it
along with Bjorn and remove the Adam's entry from it.

rbd: don't zero-fill non-image object requests
Alex Elder [Wed, 27 Mar 2013 14:16:30 +0000 (09:16 -0500)]
rbd: don't zero-fill non-image object requests
A result of ENOENT from a read request for an object that's part of
an rbd image indicates that there is a hole in that portion of the
image. Similarly, a short read for such an object indicates that
the remainder of the read should be interpreted a full read with
zeros filling out the end of the request.
This behavior is not correct for objects that are not backing rbd
image data. Currently rbd_img_obj_request_callback() assumes it
should be done for all objects.
Change rbd_img_obj_request_callback() so it only does this zeroing
for image objects. Encapsulate that special handling in its own
function. Add an assertion that the image object request is a bio
request, since we assume that (and we currently don't support any
other types).
This resolves a problem identified here:
