xen: deal with virtually mapped percpu data
The virtually mapped percpu space causes us two problems:
- for hypercalls which take an mfn, we need to do a full pagetable
walk to convert the percpu va into an mfn, and
- when a hypercall requires a page to be mapped RO via all its aliases,
we need to make sure its RO in both the percpu mapping and in the
linear mapping
This primarily affects the gdt and the vcpu info structure.

bootmem, x86: further fixes for arch-specific bootmem wrapping
Impact: fix new breakages introduced by previous fix
Commit
c132937556f56ee4b831ef4b23f1846e05fde102 tried to clean up
bootmem arch wrapper but it wasn't quite correct. Before the commit,
the followings were broken.
* Low level interface functions prefixed with __ ignored arch
preference.
* reserve_bootmem(...) can't be mapped into
reserve_bootmem_node(NODE_DATA(0)->bdata, ...) because the node is
not preference here. The region specified MUST fall into the
specified region; otherwise, it will panic.
After the commit,
* If allocation fails for the arch preferred node, it should fallback
to whatever is available. Instead, it simply failed allocation.
There are too many internal details to allow generic wrapping and
still keep things simple for archs. Plus, all that arch wants is a
way to prefer certain node over another.
This patch drops the generic wrapping around alloc_bootmem_core() and
add alloc_bootmem_core() instead. If necessary, arch can define
bootmem_arch_referred_node() macro or function which takes all
allocation information and returns the preferred node. bootmem
generic code will always try the preferred node first and then
fallback to other nodes as usual.

for sufficiently large writes, there is evidence to show that it is
deterimental for small writes. Unixbench's fstime test gives the
following results for 256 byte writes with MAX_BLOCK of 2000:

2.6.18

See w_test() in src/fstime.c in unixbench version 4.1.0. Basically, the above test
consists of counting how much we can write in this manner:
alarm(10);
while (!sigalarm) {
for (f_blocks = 0; f_blocks < 2000; ++f_blocks) {
write(f, buf, 256);
}
lseek(f, 0L, 0);

Impact: add better first percpu allocation for NUMA
On NUMA, embedding allocator can't be used as different units can't be
made to fall in the correct NUMA nodes. To use large page mapping,
each unit needs to be remapped. However, percpu areas are usually
much smaller than large page size and unused space hurts a lot as the
number of cpus grow. This allocator remaps large pages for each chunk
but gives back unused part to the bootmem allocator making the large
pages mapped twice.
This adds slightly to the TLB pressure but is much better than using
4k mappings while still being NUMA-friendly.

Impact: more latitude for first percpu chunk allocation
The first percpu chunk serves the kernel static percpu area and may or

Initialization of the first chunk needs to be done before normal

It seems archs need more latitude while initializing the first chunk

the following changes to allow this.
* Define PERCPU_DYNAMIC_RESERVE to give arch hint about how much space
to reserve in the first chunk for further dynamic allocation.
* Rename pcpu_setup_static() to pcpu_setup_first_chunk().
* Make pcpu_setup_first_chunk() much more flexible by fetching page

x86: refactor x86_quirks support
Impact: cleanup
Make x86_quirks support more transparent. The highlevel
methods are now named:
extern void x86_quirk_pre_intr_init(void);
extern void x86_quirk_intr_init(void);
extern void x86_quirk_trap_init(void);
extern void x86_quirk_pre_time_init(void);
extern void x86_quirk_time_init(void);
This makes it clear that if some platform extension has to
do something here that it is considered ... weird, and is
discouraged.

x86: remove the Voyager 32-bit subarch
Impact: remove unused/broken code
The Voyager subarch last built successfully on the v2.6.26 kernel
and has been stale since then and does not build on the v2.6.27,
v2.6.28 and v2.6.29-rc5 kernels.
No actual users beyond the maintainer reported this breakage.
Patches were sent and most of the fixes were accepted but the
discussion around how to do a few remaining issues cleanly
fizzled out with no resolution and the code remained broken.
In the v2.6.30 x86 tree development cycle 32-bit subarch support
has been reworked and removed - and the Voyager code, beyond the
build problems already known, needs serious and significant
changes and probably a rewrite to support it.
CONFIG_X86_VOYAGER has been marked BROKEN then. The maintainer has
been notified but no patches have been sent so far to fix it.
While all other subarchs have been converted to the new scheme,
voyager is still broken. We'd prefer to receive patches which
clean up the current situation in a constructive way, but even in
case of removal there is no obstacle to add that support back
after the issues have been sorted out in a mutually acceptable
fashion.
So remove this inactive code for now.

selinux: Fix the NetLabel glue code for setsockopt()
At some point we (okay, I) managed to break the ability for users to use the
setsockopt() syscall to set IPv4 options when NetLabel was not active on the

"-R" (record route) option of ping:
# ping -R 10.0.0.1
ping: record route: No message of desired type
The solution is relatively simple, we catch the unlabeled socket case and
clear the error code, allowing the operation to succeed. Please note that we
still deny users the ability to override IPv4 options on socket's which have
NetLabel labeling active; this is done to ensure the labeling remains intact.

This fixes a race where a thread acquires the console while the

semaphore would be left locked, and the primary semaphore would
be released twice. This in turn would cause the console switch
on suspend or resume to hang forever.
Note that suspend_console does not actually lock the console
for clients that use acquire_console_sem, it only locks it for
clients that use try_acquire_console_sem. If we change
suspend_console to fully lock the console, then the kernel
may deadlock on suspend. One client of try_acquire_console_sem

PM/hibernate: fix "swap breaks after hibernation failures"
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12239
The image writing code dropped a reference to the current swap device.
This doesn't show up if the hibernation succeeds - because it doesn't
affect the image which gets resumed. But it means multiple _failed_
hibernations end up freeing the swap device while it is still use!
swsusp_write() finds the block device for the swap file using swap_type_of().
It then uses blkdev_get() / blkdev_put() to open and close the block device.
Unfortunately, blkdev_get() assumes ownership of the inode of the block_device
passed to it. So blkdev_put() calls iput() on the inode. This is by design
and other callers expect this behaviour. The fix is for swap_type_of() to take
a reference on the inode using bdget().

percpu: clean up size usage
Andrew was concerned about the unit of variables named or have suffix
size. Every usage in percpu allocator is in bytes but make it super
clear by adding comments.
While at it, make pcpu_depopulate_chunk() take int @off and @size like
everyone else.

x86, mce: remove incorrect __cpuinit for mce_cpu_features()
Impact: Bug fix on UP
Checkin
6ec68bff3c81e776a455f6aca95c8c5f1d630198:
x86, mce: reinitialize per cpu features on resume
introduced a call to mce_cpu_features() in the resume path, in order
for the MCE machinery to get properly reinitialized after a resume.
However, this function (and its successors) was flagged __cpuinit,
which becomes __init on UP configurations (on SMP suspend/resume
requires CPU hotplug and so this would not be seen.)
Remove the offending __cpuinit annotations for mce_cpu_features() and
its successor functions.

[CIFS] Fix multiuser mounts so server does not invalidate earlier security contexts
When two different users mount the same Windows 2003 Server share using CIFS,
the first session mounted can be invalidated. Some servers invalidate the first
smb session when a second similar user (e.g. two users who get mapped by server to "guest")
authenticates an smb session from the same client.
By making sure that we set the 2nd and subsequent vc numbers to nonzero values,
this ensures that we will not have this problem.
Fixes Samba bug 6004, problem description follows:
How to reproduce:
- configure an "open share" (full permissions to Guest user) on Windows 2003
Server (I couldn't reproduce the problem with Samba server or Windows older
than 2003)
- mount the share twice with different users who will be authenticated as guest.
noacl,noperm,user=john,dir_mode=0700,domain=DOMAIN,rw
noacl,noperm,user=jeff,dir_mode=0700,domain=DOMAIN,rw
Result:
- just the mount point mounted last is accessible:

[CIFS] improve posix semantics of file create
Samba server added support for a new posix open/create/mkdir operation
a year or so ago, and we added support to cifs for mkdir to use it,
but had not added the corresponding code to file create.
The following patch helps improve the performance of the cifs create
path (to Samba and servers which support the cifs posix protocol
extensions). Using Connectathon basic test1, with 2000 files, the
performance improved about 15%, and also helped reduce network traffic
(17% fewer SMBs sent over the wire) due to saving a network round trip
for the SetPathInfo on every file create.
It should also help the semantics (and probably the performance) of
write (e.g. when posix byte range locks are on the file) on file
handles opened with posix create, and adds support for a few flags
which would have to be ignored otherwise.

[CIFS] Fix oops in cifs_strfromUCS_le mounting to servers which do not specify their OS
Fixes kernel bug #10451 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10451
Certain NAS appliances do not set the operating system or network operating system
fields in the session setup response on the wire. cifs was oopsing on the unexpected
zero length response fields (when trying to null terminate a zero length field).
This fixes the oops.
